Fez is often described as Morocco’s cultural and religious heartland. Founded in the ninth century, it has served as the nation’s capital for several periods throughout Morocco’s history. Wander its streets and you’ll pass vibrant markets, ornate mosques and centuries-old palaces. As well as radiating history, the city eclectically blends the old with the new. Recent years have seen a surge in the development of modern infrastructure and facilities such as new hotels, restaurants, shopping centres and a tram system.
