Start your half day excursion to follow the trails of the ancient Delmon Civilization by visiting the 16th century fort built by the Portuguese, the Bahrain Fort. The area, known as Qal'at al-Bahrain, was once the capital of the Delmon civilization and is now a UNESCO World Site that boasts archaeological treasures. Next you visit the Saar Burial Chambers, located on the northwest part of the island of Bahrain, near the centre of the Persian Gulf. Saar spreads over 2.5 hectares and lies on the side of limestone ridge where once existed a large cemetery. Follow up your exploration to the Saar Burial Chambers by visiting the Barbar Temple located to the north of Saar. The temple built of limestone bricks is the most recent to be discovered from amongst the three that were built on top for one another, the earliest one existing from as early as 2000 BC. Conclude your trail of the Delmon Civilisation by visiting the ‘Tree of Life’, an acacia tree surviving for more than 400 years in the desert of Bahrain. A popular belief identifies this tree as one belonging to the ‘Garden of Eden’.
