A surge of tourists to Cambodia has got many wondering what is it about the country that is interesting to global tourists. The answer is almost everything! Sure Cambodia has temples like Angkor Wat running at the forefront to become one of the most magnificent places in the world in the public conscience but it is its eclectic mix of experiences that has led to the country finding itself at the centre of a tourist interest. Add to it the warm hospitality offered by the Cambodians and you have for yourself a place that gives you the best of Southeast Asia. Siem Reap The site of the great ruins of Angkor, Siem Reap is known for many of other equally alluring archaeological wonders including Banteay Srei and Beng Mealea temples. The Angkor National Museum and Cambodia War Remnant Museum preserve the rich history of the city and are important tourist attractions. Siem Reap has a cosmopolitan culture as evident in its many boutique resorts, hotels, galleries and spas. The Old French Quarter and the Pub Street are the best places to experience the nightlife in Cambodia. For souvenirs, Angkor Night Market as well as the Old Market is quite popular. Phnom Penh The busy capital of Cambodia is known for its vibrancy and compares to the neighbouring Bangkok in terms of hustle and bustle. A true Southeast Asian capital, Phnom Penh has many top-of-the line restaurants, cafes and hotels, particularly around the Street 240, to accommodate the increasing number of tourist arrivals. The Russian Market is ideal for shopping for clothing as well as jewellery. As far as popular sites are concerned, Phnom Penh has Wat Phnom on the hilltop as well as the Royal Palace that contains history of the ancient dynasties that ruled over the city. Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is also a major attraction in Phnom Penh. Mekong Exploring the Mekong River is one of the essential experiences for a 'no-regrets' journey to Cambodia. Have a sunset cruise or walk along its shores, you are guaranteed great views and a peace of mind. The river is popular for dolphin watching tours as well as among cyclists who explore the surrounding areas on wheels. Read more ...
